Search underway for Hawaii woman who disappeared while traveling to NYC

A desperate search was underway on Saturday for a 30-year-old Hawaii woman who went missing while traveling to New York City.
Hannah Kobayashi departed from her native Maui on Friday, Nov. 8., and was supposed to catch a connecting flight at Los Angeles International Airport, KHON2 reported. She was scheduled to land in New York City the following day, but she never arrived.
Her family believes she missed her connecting flight out of LAX, and a short YouTube video that surfaced this week appeared to show Kobayashi outside an event in Los Angeles last Saturday, according to Hawaii News Now.
Her cellphone placed her back at LAX on Monday before being turned off or going dead.
“We know her phone’s off because it goes straight to voicemail,” her sister, Sydni Kobayashi, said. “We’ve been trying to call and call and call, text. None of the texts are getting delivered. We can’t locate her phone.”
Before going radio silent, however, Kobayashi on Monday sent out several troubling text messages to family and friends, reported Hawaii News Now.
“I got tricked pretty much into giving away all my funds,” she wrote, followed by a second message that read, “For someone I thought I loved.”
In different message to her aunt in New York, she mentioned a “spiritual awakening,” then apologized in another text, writing that she “definitely got intercepted.”
Another text to her roommate reportedly said someone was trying to steal her identity, according to KITV. That message was the last time anyone has heard from her.
“She felt like she was in danger,” her father, Ryan Kobayashi, told ABC7. He noted she’s a seasoned traveler and has been to places like Europe and Japan, but it’s “never happened where she’s not in touch with anybody.”
A missing persons report for Kobayashi was filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and her family has also been in touch with Maui police.
“We’re just hoping that she is safe and healthy and alive,” her father said. “If anybody knows anything we’d just really appreciate any kind of help.”
