FairPrice Group gives away 12,000 breakfast bundles to PSLE students

SINGAPORE: Supermarket operator FairPrice Group gave away 12,000 breakfast bundles to students who are taking their Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) this year.
The giveaway took place over Friday (Sep 20) and Saturday across 131 participating Cheers and FairPrice Xpress convenience stores islandwide.
Primary 6 pupils who presented their student card or PSLE examination slip could redeem a “Cheers Breakfast Club” bundle worth over S$20 (US$16).
Each pack contained breakfast essentials and other items including milk, cereal, wholemeal bread, kaya, snack bars, canned tuna, Milo and Brand’s Essence of Chicken.
The redemptions were limited to one bundle per student, and was given out on a first-come-first-served basis.
About 9,200 bundles were given out on Friday. By 5.30pm on Saturday, all bundles were fully redeemed.
A group of students who collected their gift packs at the Cheers outlet at AMK Hub told CNA they had their eye on the Milo beverage.
“We are in the final stretch of studying for the exams. This breakfast package will help to energise them,” said one parent at the collection point with her 12-year-old daughter.
Ms Michelle Chang, another parent, said: “This is a good initiative because next week will be their so-called study week. My child loves some of the things in the bundle. They will encourage him to work harder.”
FairPrice Group, Singapore’s largest supermarket operator, said it took into consideration the nutritional needs of students while curating the gift pack.
It hopes the initiative can help pupils sustain their focus and productivity during their examination preparations.
Group CEO Vipul Chawla said the PSLE is a time when “physical and mental wellbeing play a pivotal role” in the lives of students and their families.
He added he believes “good nutrition is the key to maintaining a healthy balance of both … and hopes to give the kids something to cheer about”.
“The rationale is to put together a bunch of products which are delicious and well-liked by the youngsters …  which will help them to start strong with a great breakfast, and stay strong through the day,” he said.
The PSLE written examination starts next week and will run from Sep 26 to Oct 2.
